Very interesting. I'd read some of Casey Handmer's blog but didn't have much idea of his process. The trial by the US navy a few years ago was using CO2 from seawater (presumably both dissolved CO2 and bicarbonates), for a much more concentrated source than air. The navy of course would use nuclear heat and power, to make jet fuel for carriers. A civilian alternative could be dimethyl ether, which is much easier to store than methane. It could be shipped, without any refrigeration, in the same tankers as used for LPG, and would be a far better shipping fuel than ammonia. No greenhouse effect from leaks, unlike methane, and can be used in turbines or diesels, with very low N2O production, and no soot.

China is working on using pressurised water reactors, cheap but only reaching ~300C, together with their more expensive but higher temperature pebble bed reactor, to give abundant high quality steam. Some Western startups, like X-Energy, Aalo Atomics, or Copenhagen Atomics, are aiming at 550C steam supply.

does H3 from the Moon factor into this at all? presuming we could get our hydrogen from H3?
